Palliative care vs. Hospice

Hello. I have seen that many of my peers seem to use hospice and palliative care interchangeably in interpreting. I’d like to get ideas from peers in the greater interpreting world to learn how they respond to interpretations in these situations.

Hi, thank you for posting this. In Spanish, I would not interpret the word hospice as “hospicio”. The translation for palliative care is preferable since it has a better connotation.

I would interpreter palliative care in Spanish as cuidados paliativos.

It is important to differentiate the two concepts.
How is palliative care different from hospice?

Palliative care is available at any stage of a serious or life-threatening illness. Hospice care is available only at the end of life — when curative or life-prolonging treatments have been stopped. You don’t have to be in hospice to receive palliative care
