Within a medical context such as the one indicated by Michelle, you might say: se corre el riesgo de, conlleva efectos negativos/peligrosos, desencadena (as in trigger) if the idea you want to convey is that a a certain on-going situation may cause something else spiral out of control.

To say “terreno resbaladizo” for “slippery slope” is commonly used in South American countries (I grew up in Argentina).

So, if I were to interpret/translate Michelle’s quote above, that would be:
“Si no pone cuidado con el control de su alta presión, ésto puede llegar a provocar terreno resbaladizo para otras complicaciones médicas”.

And, of course, Claudia’s explanation should get the idea across just as effectively.
