| Description: | This video is the third in a 3-part “Advanced Ethics” series. As training programs for medical interpreters continue to gain momentum, code of ethics are introduced as an expectation for guiding daily practice. In this video, Therese Mirande goes beyond basics to present 5 scenarios with ethical dilemmas for participants to consider. She walks participants through the 5 steps of the decision-making process for each scenario. Viewers are encouraged to engage in conversations about the concepts presented in the "Ethical Dilemmas" discussion forum. Ms. Mirande reviews how to “scrub” details from an encounter in order to maintain confidentiality. |
| Bio: | Therese Mirande is certified as a Spanish Medical Interpreter and Spanish Social Services Interpreter by the State of Washington DSHS. She holds a master’s degree in Spanish and a doctorate in Romance Languages, both from the University of Washington. She has been a professor of World Languages as well as Language Interpreting at Pierce College. As a member of the National Council of Interpreting in Healthcare, Ms. Mirande played an integral role in the development of their Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. |
